Lessons
Crash offers a variety of tutoring pathways to students of all ages and all levels of ability. Our broad syllabus covers several aspects of drum technique, vocabulary and coordination. The 'Crash Course' consists of an 8 level curriculum: Beginner (Level 0-2), Intermediate (Leve 3-5) and Advanced (Level 6-8). The syllabus includes the following important drumming aspects:

curriculum
Rudiments - Each level introduces new 'rudiments', the fundamentals of drumming. With 27 total to learn, these rudiments range from the simple single stroke roll to the most complex inversions of parradiddles, and enhance every aspect of drumming.
Kit Wits - This section covers general knowledge about the drum kit itself, an aspect that is commonly overlooked by other tutors. In this section students will learn how to set up the drums properly, tune them, and optimise the use of their equipment.
Grooves - This section focuses on diversifying each drummers musical vocabulary. Through the practise of different beats from across the world students will develop an extensive understanding of a plethora of grooves.
Techniques - This section helps to develop a variety of hand & foot techniques, including: For Feet - Slide Technique, Heel/Toe Technique, Double Bass Kick: For Hands - Moeller Technique, Push Pull Technique, German/French Grip.
Limb Independence - The Drum Kit is the only instrument that actively requires all four limbs to play (typically different rhythms) at the same time, which can be a very difficult concept for new drummers. The exercises in this section develop drummers' limb independence through the practise of rudiments overtop of different foot ostinatos.
Exercises - These Trinity College London exercises put the rudiments from each level into practise. They give clear examples of their application in grooves, fills and solos, which enhances students understanding of how they can be used.
Ear Training - It is important for drummers to not become too reliant on sheet music, and so this section focusses on learning songs by ear. The selection of music comprises songs from the Trinity College Rock & Pop syllabus, with each level correlating with the Trinity Grades (0-8)
Exam Songs - Each level contains 6 exam pieces from the 2020-2023 Trinity College London - Drum Kit syllabus. These can be prepared in the case that the student wishes to undertake a Trinity College Exam correlating with their level of expertise.
Beginner
The Beginner Programme is aimed at developing the musicianship and enthusiasm of new drummers, as well as getting them used to the kit, and developing their understanding of the fundamentals of the drums.
